  • Rothschild Fellows 5th Alumni Colloquium

    Wed, 08/05/2024 to Thu, 09/05/2024 The fifth Rothschild Fellows Alumni Colloquium, organized by Yad Hanadiv, will be held at the IIAS. The colloquium will bring together alumni, as well as current holders of Rothschild postdoctoral fellowships, together with colleagues, peers and mentors, including Rothschild Prize and Bruno Award recipients. The Rothschild fellowship program was established to help young scholars of outstanding academic merit and potential to advance in their respective fields. Beginning in the 1979-1980 academic year, over 500 fellowships have been awarded to date. The majority of the fellows have pursued their academic careers in Israel, with many of them becoming leading figures in their respective fields.

Prof. Khoury is the previous Dean of the Paul Baerwald School of Social Work and Social Welfare at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Sarah Sackman is a public and environmental barrister and a political activist. She is the Vice Chair of the Jewish Labour Movement and trustee of the Abraham Initiatives UK. Professor Edwin Seroussi is the Emanuel Alexandre Professor Emeritus of Musicology and Chair of the Academic Committee of the Jewish Music Research Centre both at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Visiting Scholar at Dartmouth College and, in 2023/4, Fellow at the Herbert G. Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on Jewish musical cultures of the Mediterranean and Middle East and their interactions with Islamic cultures, Judeo-Spanish song and music in Israel. He explores processes of hybridization, diaspora, nationalism and transnationalism in diverse contexts and historical periods such as the Ottoman Empire, colonial Morocco and Algeria, Germany’s Second Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Zionist settlement in Palestine and the Judeo-Spanish-speaking diaspora.

With Professor Yaniv Elkouby, Department of Developmental Biology and Cancer Research, Institute for Biomedical Research – Israel-Canada (IMRIC) PROFESSOR YANIV ELKOUBY is a professor at the School of Medicine at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Prof Elkouby established the zebrafish ovary as a new model system to study the cellular mechanisms of ovary development and early egg production. His research employs a multidisciplinary approach to the developing ovary, and he pioneered the view of egg production by advanced quantitative and live microscopy of whole ovaries. His research resulted in several breakthroughs that contributed to our understanding of the earliest stages of egg production, generating knowledge that is directly relevant to human reproduction. He has won numerous grants and awards, including the ZCAI Prize for Discovery in Medical Research, HUJI President and Rector Awards for Outstanding Publications, an ERC Consolidator grant, and the EMBO Young Investigator Award. Prof Elkouby is an elected board member of the Israeli Society of Developmental Biology, and a co-founder of Forsea Foods, a start-up company for the production of cultivated fish meat.
