- CFHU Centennial Authors Spotlight Series w/ Sivan Slapak
Join us as we spotlight acclaimed Israeli and Canadian authors in a celebration of storytelling that unites us all. Sivan Slapak , who lived in Jerusalem for 20 years before returning to Canada in 2013, has had her short fiction and essays published in various Canadian literary journals and anthologies. Her debut book, Here Is Still Here , was a finalist for the QWF Concordia University First Book Prize . Sivan resides in Montreal, working in the arts and culture sector. Moderator Debbie Dankoff had been reviewing books for over 15 years at various Montreal book clubs. She took a break to kick cancer in the butt and earn a Master’s Degree in Philanthropy and Not for Profit Leadership. Currently, she is the VP of National Development for the Canadian Friends of Hebrew University, and excited to be back reviewing as part of the book club showcasing HUJI alumni. At the frontlines are the brave Hebrew University students who have been selected for Tzameret, Israel’s Elite Military Medical program, who provide an essential medical backbone for the IDF. Join Joshua Rednik, CEO of American Friends of the Hebrew University, in conversation with these students to hear how they have contributed over the course of the Israel-Hamas War. The panel will discuss the current state of the international rule of law, the reasons for the period of crisis we find ourselves in, and possible ways to revitalise the rule-based international order.
